Entertaiment is a word that is often used to describe a kind of activity or experience that is designed for enjoyment, and usually involves amusement. It can range from a personal choice of pre-recorded entertainment, such as music, movies or TV shows; through banquets that are adapted to fit two or more people; to activities that are part of a ceremony, celebration or religious festival; to performances for thousands of people.
The word derives from medieval Latin intertenere, a combination of the prefix inter- and the suffix tenere, which means to hold inside. It was later transformed by English usage to include a sense of amusement.
Entertainment is often very edgy, hitting on the themes that our brains were evolved to react deeply to. This can be a great feeling, if it is done in a way that does not hurt anyone or go below human dignity.
