The Daily News

Founded in 1919, the New York Daily News was the first U.S. newspaper printed in tabloid format and at its peak circulation was the eleventh largest daily paper in the world. It is the city’s largest newspaper, with intense local news coverage and a strong editorial staff. It has a liberal political bias and is often compared with the more conservative New York Post. The newspaper is currently owned by tronc and is headquartered in the historic art deco Daily News Building at 220 East 42nd Street.

The New York Daily News was the first tabloid newspaper to gain popularity in the United States and it became the most widely read newspaper in the country at its height. It attracted readers with sensational crime and scandal coverage, lurid photographs, and cartoons. It was the most successful tabloid newspaper until it was outrun by its rival, the New York Post, in the 1930s.

The News has a left-leaning bias and is often compared with the more moderate to right-leaning New York Post. The News is more likely to highlight the positive aspects of a story than its counterpart. The News also has a stronger focus on local stories and events than the Post does.

Designed by John Mead Howells and Raymond Hood, the Daily News Building is an official city and national landmark. Its exterior is a distinctive Art Deco structure, and the building’s skyline can be seen from all over the city. Inside, the newspaper offices are housed in two towers connected by a central courtyard and skywalks. The Daily News is the first newspaper to have a live, streaming video unit called “News Now”. In addition to its original television shows and webcasts, it has an extensive collection of vintage news clips that can be found in the Daily News Archive. The archive includes thousands of classic and contemporary clips covering a wide variety of topics. The Daily News also publishes a weekly magazine and several special editions each year including the Yale-Harvard Game Day Issue, Commencement Issue, and First Year Issue.
