Entertaiment means leisure, but the word has a rich history. It derives from the medieval Latin intertenere, a compound of the prefix “inside” and the suffix “to hold.” Entertainment can transform and expand the meaning of leisure; it may also be used as a method of attaining perception or highbrow growth. For example, what appears to be merely entertainment may hit on themes the brain was shaped to react deeply to such as murders, backstabbing and social issues that are part of the human experience. The familiarity of many forms of entertainment has demonstrated a remarkable ability to cross over different media.
