Yale Daily News

Founded in 1919, the New York Daily News was the first successful tabloid newspaper in the United States. Originally known as the Illustrated Daily News, it attracted readers with sensational coverage of crime and scandal, lurid photographs, and cartoons and other entertainment features. It is also credited with having helped establish the United States press as a powerful political force in the early 20th century. In its heyday the Daily News had a circulation of more than two million. Today, it is still one of the country’s most popular newspapers.

Located in the heart of New York City, the Daily News has long been a leader in local and national journalism. The News’ staff of journalists and designers has won numerous awards for their work, including the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting. In addition to its extensive city and regional news coverage, the newspaper offers a wide range of other content, including celebrity and entertainment gossip, classified ads, comics, a sports section, and opinion pieces. In addition, the paper has a robust web presence, social media accounts, and an active mobile app.

The Yale Daily News is the nation’s oldest college daily and publishes every weekday when classes are in session. It is editorially and financially independent. Many of the paper’s former student editors, writers and contributors have gone on to careers in journalism and public service. The News is proud of its role as an integral part of the Yale community and seeks to serve all students, regardless of background or ideological affiliation.

In addition to being an important source of news and information for the entire University, the Daily News is committed to promoting a spirit of intellectual curiosity. It encourages readers to think about important questions and issues through its news, feature, and opinion pages. Its coverage of campus life and culture reflects the diverse interests and concerns of the Yale community.

During its heyday, the Daily News had a circulation of more then 2,000,000 copies per day. Today, the newspaper has a circulation of around 1.5 million. The Daily News was owned by Tribune Publishing until 2017 when it was sold to Tronc for $1. In its last years under ownership by Zuckerman, the News had been struggling financially. The paper had begun to focus on local news stories instead of national and international news, which had previously been its strength. In addition, the News had been losing readers to other online sources.

The current owner of the Daily News is a hedge fund, Alden Global Capital. There has been a great deal of controversy over the way the paper has been managed by the hedge fund since it took control in 2017. Various lawsuits and protests have taken place to call attention to what some see as the negative impact of this change in management on the News’ quality and reputation. The paper’s stance on politics has also come under fire in recent times.
